The wear challenge
Steel plant ducting moves hot fines, scale, and abrasive carry-over through the mill. Mild steel erodes in months at elbows, transitions, and high-velocity runs. Hardox-lined duct sections extend service life while keeping flow geometry intact.
Process ducting faces sliding abrasion from carry-over, thermal cycling, and in some lines corrosive dust. SSAB recommends wear-resistant plate and, in high-temperature or acidic environments, Hardox HiAce for combined heat and corrosion resistance.
Recommended Hardox grades
Grade selection depends on abrasive material, impact, and operating conditions. Claims below are from SSAB published material.
- Hardox 450
- General duct walls and deflector plates
- Hardox 500
- High-velocity runs and impact zones
- Hardox HiAce
- Corrosive or high-temperature process environments
What BSF makes
BSF fabricates Hardox-lined duct sections, transitions, and patch plates from your drawing or worn sample. CNC plasma cutting, bending, and submerged arc welding at our New Borg El Arab shop.
- 01CutCNC high-definition plasma cutting to tight tolerances
- 02BendHydraulic NC shearing and CNC plate bending
- 03WeldSubmerged arc welding column & boom for heavy sections
- 04MachineCNC vertical machining center and radial drilling
- 05DeliverISO 9001 process from material receipt to finished parts

Hardox HiAce maintains hardness in high-temperature and corrosive environments up to 400°C, where conventional AR steels lose performance.
