The wear challenge

Cutting and base edges are sacrificial by design: they protect the bucket or blade structure underneath. Remaking edges in Hardox extends intervals between field replacements under impact and abrasion.

Edges see direct contact with ground, rock, and asphalt under impact loads. SSAB recommends Hardox 500 Tuf or 500 for cutting edges and Hardox 450 or 500 Tuf for bulldozer and grader blades. Good Roads reported 3× longer blade life switching to Hardox 500 Tuf.

Recommended Hardox grades

Grade selection depends on abrasive material, impact, and operating conditions. Claims below are from SSAB published material.

Hardox 500 Tuf
Cutting edges, base edges, and snow plow blades
Hardox 500
High-abrasion ground-engaging edges
Hardox HiTuf
Ripper tips and extreme impact edges
